Mr Riaz Ahmad has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Weston since August 2015. His elective practice focuses exclusively on knee surgery.​

Riaz’s main surgical interest is meniscal, cartilage and ligament injury repair and reconstruction, realignment and stabilisation surgery for patella instability, osteotomies around the knee and management of osteoarthritis including partial and total knee replacement and revision knee replacement. He has experience of managing complex trauma around the Knee.​

Riaz’s specialist orthopaedic training was on the prestigious Bristol rotation, and was followed by one year of advanced fellowship training in knee surgery and trauma surgery in the internationally renowned Exeter Knee Reconstruction unit under Andy Toms, where he gained experience in all aspects of knee surgery. He honed his skills in knee and sports injury surgery further by travelling fellowships with Prof Peter Verdonk and Dr Koen Lagae in Belgium and Dr Sonnery-Cottet in France.​

Riaz has a keen research and teaching interest having published large number of research papers. He is the lead for registrars’ teaching in Weston and is the orthopaedic tutor for Bristol medical students.​

Riaz has keen sports interest, previously playing cricket at college level, but now enjoys travelling and watching sports. He lives locally with his wife and two children.​
